Jack Adams is a lawyer and as disciplined as they come. And at age 35, he has earned the trust of his mentor and boss and been handed a delicate case for the daughter of a major client. If he handles this right, his partnership is all but guaranteed. After he wins a big hearing, Jack sees the finish line in sight. But his career takes an unexpected turn when his client has other plans and Jack succumbs to her charms. Seduced and manipulated, Jack struggles to unravel the truth while he is forced to fight for his job, his law license, and even his freedom.
If you like legal thrillers that are edgy and gripping, then you will love Broken Promises. In this novel, break-out author, Nick Nichols, a long-time family law attorney, tackles all the spicy issues of divorce: adultery, addiction, power, and greed. The lead character’s error in judgment, namely, sleeping with his client, took him down a path that spiraled down into an abyss. The book serves as a cautionary tale for lawyers who might be similarly tempted.
Nick Nichols has seen it all when it comes to family legal issues and he does more than a “drive by” of a number of these from not only a lawyer’s perspective, but also the reader’s perspective. At some point, we’ve all had dealings with lawyers that included many twists and turns. This book will either open some memories or expose the reader to a new situation or set of emotions. Nichols does a great job with character development while bringing the plot to a carefully executed ending. A great end of summer read that does not disappoint. I’m looking forward to Nichols’ next effort.
While Nick was busy practicing divorce law, he decided to honor his lifelong passion of creative writing. He draws on his experience in divorce law to craft the characters and drama that propel his stories.
James “Nick” Nichols was born on June 30, 1961, in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. Educated at Wayne County High School and Georgia State University, he graduated in 1988, with a juris doctorate.
After clerking for a trial judge from 1988 to 1990, he has practiced divorce law from 1990 to 2015.
