The good, the bad, and the ugly side of social media, especially when it comes to sports. Mike Muhney has enjoyed a varied, passionate and uniquely successful career in the high-tech industry. Born and raised in Chicago and graduating from the University of Illinois with a degree in Finance, with Honors, Mike began his career with IBM in 1975 and was professionally trained in their intensive full-time 6-month-long internal Sales School. He was ranked 6th out of his national class of 66 students, after which he sold mainframes and software solutions and achieved numerous Hundred Percent Clubs, IBM’s most successful sales fraternity.
Mike Muhney is no ordinary networking expert. This master of relationship management has enjoyed a varied, passionate and uniquely successful 37-year career in the high-tech industry, with most of that as a founding father in the CRM and business networking space. Having started his career at IBM in the mainframe era, Muhney subsequently co-founded and co-invented ACT!, which singularly created the Contact Management software category and is widely recognized as the catalyst that started today’s multi-billion dollar CRM industry. After ACT! was sold to Symantec in 1993, Muhney was years later recruited by Deloitte Consulting to be one of their 3 global CRM spokesmen for their CRM practice built around Siebel and other lesser CRM players. Muhney was then recruited to be the EVP & GM of International Operations for Saleslogix, maker of the mid-market CRM product Saleslogix, which was eventually sold to Sage out of the UK.
Presently, Muhney is the Founder & CEO of vipOrbit Software, which is dedicated to Mobile Relationship Management solutions—a category that vipOrbit created as the first relationship-centric solution that is the first-ever contact manager designed to work across Mac, iPhone and iPad.
Now a highly regarded media expert source and public speaker, Muhney shares his compelling and distinctive insights on the topic of CRM, effective business relationship management, social media, and street-smart contrarian views toward the nature and manner of human dynamics in the business world—all insights derived from his front-line, first-hand view of the birth and unfolding momentum that ACT! produced in helping others derive greater relationship-centric value in their personal relationships.
