Rick recently had the opportunity to talk with John Wes Townley, who captured his first career NASCAR Camping World Truck Series victory on Saturday, Oct. 3 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. It was also the first win for his truck sponsor Zaxby’s and team Athenian Motorsports.
With five laps to go in the Rhino Linings 350, two-time defending champion Matt Crafton ran out of fuel, allowing Townley to overtake the sputtering Crafton. After running second and third throughout the race, Townley was able to hold on to the lead, fighting off Timothy Peters for his first win.
Townley has had a breakout season, posting seven top-10 finishes in 18 starts while also running a part-time NASCAR XFINITY Series schedule. He heads next to Charlotte Motor Speedway on Friday, Oct. 10 in the NASCAR XFINITY Series.
