There’s national IPA day, national waffle fries day, national pancake day, national pretty-much-anything-you-want day, but there’s no International Podcast Day. That’s what Steve Lee, founder of , thought to himself one day. And so he set out to change that. On this special edition of Flash Past, Dan has Steve on to discuss National Podcast Day and what it means to the podcasting world. The inaugural National Podcast Day is September 30, 2014.
The day is intended to raise awareness of podcasting through education and public engagement. If you want to engage with NPD, go over to internationalpodcastday.com and sign up for the mailing list. After September 1st, the website will feature information about events and how to get others involved. There will be downloads and videos.
Speaking of videos, break out your camera and interview someone. It can be anyone you want. Here’s what you need to do. Ask them what their favorite podcast is. That’s it. Either they will tell you about this great podcast they enjoy, or they will look at you and ask what a podcast is (or at least why anyone would listen to one). Then, post that video on social media using the hashtag #PodcastDay. Those videos will be featured on the National Podcast Day website, with your approval, of course.
So, start the conversation. Tell someone about a podcast you enjoy. Help raise awareness for this great entertainment and education medium.
