The evolution of skyscrapers is quite remarkable. We often times forget how an advancement in one field can impact the creation of another.
A list of factors made the evolution of skyscrapers a reality. Consider the iron and steel industry and its dominance through the Industrial Revolution. How about the advancements in education, specifically in the disciplines of engineering, architecture, and design? As immigration increased and as urban populations increased, it created a demand for taller buildings. These factors, and many others, jolted the construction industry and began to develop a newer urban landscape that would change our nation’s identity.
